Weblog: Delayed

<< Previous Entry | Next Entry >>

We were all packed up and ready to go at 7:30 this morning, and had started loading the trucks, when Tom (the supervisor) came out and told us that the herbicide lines went missing from one of the trucks, and that we can't start without them. We're delayed until tomorrow. I was really looking forward to getting out there, so I'm a bit disappointed.

The delay did give me a chance to go to town to update the web site and get a couple of things I thought of while packing. I found that I had no way to carry all the extra stuff I got other than garbage bags, so I picked up a big hockey bag which will hopefully make it more convenient. The experienced guys all seem to have tonnes of stuff (way more than me even now), so obviously packing light is not the right goal for this job. It's amazing how the amount money I'm investing into getting ready for this job keeps increasing so fast, but it should pay off in the end.

Since I had extra time, I also figured I should take advantage of city things, so I took in a movie. I went to see "Finding Nemo." Pixar strikes again; I just love their movies. I'm not sure if I like this one quite as much as Monsters Inc, so it breaks their run of every movie being better than the last, but I still loved it. It's non-stop action from start to finish, but it didn't have as much adult-oriented humour. Nobody makes movies with the kind of energy that Pixar's have. I just hope I didn't catch some kind of illnes from all the little kids in the theatre.

Unfortunately, because I left for town quite early, I didn't hear about the saw orientation that Apex decided to do in the afternoon. Just as I was leaving I thought that I should have given my phone number to someone, and now I wish I had. I missed the orientation, but it's not a big deal. A few others missed it too so they'll go over it again when we get to Ospika.

At the end of the day I went for another walk in the woods, this time exploring some of the smaller, much nicer trails that are a bit farther away.
