Weblog: Study Day

<< Previous Entry | Next Entry >>

Today is designated a study day for the herbicide test tomorrow, but I spent much of it in town stocking up on supplies. I was wrong about PG not having a centre; it does have a downtown, though it's bland and I didn't percieve any particular focal point.

I've finally discovered the wonders of thrift stores. In the past I had gone in once in a while to try to find something but never had much luck (not that I ever have much luck in clothing stores; they're not my favorite places to be), but a trip to Value Village in Victoria before I left turned up all kinds of good stuff, and the Value Village here was much the same. Unfortunately I chose not to bring a lot of the things I had bought in Victoria because I wanted to travel somewhat light and wasn't sure exactly what I would need. I hadn't anticipated being in the bush for a month at a time, though, and figured that after a week I would know better what I needed and would buy it then. But now I won't have the option of picking up anything I've missed, so I ended up buying probably more than I need. I really wish I had brought that great pair of wool pants I found in Victoria, because the thrift stores here didn't have any (no doubt cleared out by all the tree planters in town).

Apex seems to be fairly well organised, but they're not being so great about telling us what's going on. I have no idea when or where our test is tomorrow, for example.

Up until today, the weather here has been really nice. Mostly overcast with a bit of sun, but warm enough for shorts and a T-shirt. This afternoon it turned. There was some rain while I was in town, and later in the afternoon the thunder and lightning began. Victoria gets so little of that, so I enjoyed it thoroughly (from inside).

Now that I have everything I need (I hope) I'm really looking forward to getting out there. Camp conditions sound sweet. All we have to do is our work, everything else is taken care of. Really good food, all you can eat. We each get our own rooms, and the beds are even made every morning!
