Weblog: Big Changes

<< Previous Entry | Next Entry >>

My last day at Exile was on Tuesday the 15th (exactly three weeks before my 1 year anniversery at Exile). I'm now living in Victoria again (it's good to be back). I've been wanting to make a big change in my life for a long time now, but never had the courage to go for it. My loan is nearly payed off, so no more obligations, and all kinds of events seem to have been leading me to taking the plunge.

This summer I'll be brushing near Prince George for Apex Reforestation. That starts in mid-May and will last at least until the end of August, and possibly until October. After that I'm not sure what I'm going to do, which is a wonderful feeling! I may go travel somewhere for the winter, I may stay around here and take some classes or find some work, maybe I'll do some volunteering, or maybe I'll go back to what I was doing before. I'll find out when I get there.

You may have noticed that the web site structure has changed again (after just having redone a lot of it a couple of months ago). Since I'll be away for long periods of time, I won't be able to maintain my server, and it's difficult to find a good, inexpensive Zope host (Zope is the application server that my web site was served from), so I've changed from a dynamically generated site to simple static HTML. All the HTML is generated using XSL from content stored in XML documents. Hopefully while I'm away I'll be able to work on my site offline on my laptop and send updates when I'm somewhere that has Internet access. A nice bonus to the new design is that it's now all fully validating strict XHTML 1.0, which I wasn't able to achieve when I relied on ZWiki. It should be faster now, too.
