Weblog: Updates

First, a Parksville moment: I was taking the bus to Woodgrove Centre in Nanaimo to do some shopping and catch a movie, and there were two pre-teen girls setting in the seat behind me. They were talking to a woman sitting next to them, who had gotten diverced recently. One of them says: "when I get divorced, I'm going to make sure I get a lot of money." So very Parksville.

There is not much going on in my life. Work is busy, and I don't seem to be very motivated to do anything outside, so I've been leading a very indoor existance since I got back from Mexico. About the only hiking I've done was when Alex and Natalie were over here for a weekend. I've also done some exploring along the Englishman River. From Rathtrevor following the Top Bridge Trail, then crossing the river I've cycled quite a ways along the river, almost to Englishman River Falls before I took a wrong turn.

GeoURL lets you tag your web site with its longitude and latitude ("ICBM" coordinates) and search for nearby sites. Pretty cool. Looks like I'm the only one in the Nanaimo region at the moment, but there are a few in Victoria and lots in Vancouver. Click here to see web sites near this one: GeoURL

Jeff "Yak" Minter, legendary video game designer and programmer, and creator of one of my favorite video games, Tempest 2000 for the Atari Jaguar, has started up Llamasoft again. He's released a great game with hyper "pixelshatter" graphics like those in T2K: Grid Runner ++. Runs on PC. Love it so far. He's also re-released a couple of his old games for PocketPC, but I haven't tried them yet. PomPom Games has a couple of really fun games as well, that run on Windows, Mac, and Linux: Mutant Storm and Space Tripper. All three of these games are the sort of thing I like: Fast paced, lots happening on the screen, simple but very fun gameplay, and rely on quick reflexes rather than thinking.
